Intashyo Support
Intashyo is an iOS app that helps immigrants and refugees in the United States — with verified local listings across Kentucky — find resources for housing, food, health, education, legal aid, jobs, documents, family services, transportation, and money — with built-in support for Kinyarwanda, French, Swahili, and English. Outside Kentucky it shows a national directory. The resource directory and emergency numbers are always free; the AI features (chat, letter scanning, and voice) are free for your first 30 days, then covered by a small monthly subscription.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to create an account?
No. Intashyo works fully without an account. You can optionally sign in with Apple or Google — if you do, our server stores your account ID, your name and email (if your Apple or Google account shares them), and the city and language you set in the app. See the Privacy Policy for what an account stores.
How do I delete my account?
Open the Profile tab and tap Delete account. This permanently removes your account from our server and, for Sign in with Apple, revokes the app's access to your Apple ID. You can also email us and we will delete it for you.
How much does Intashyo cost?
The resource directory and emergency numbers are free forever. The AI features (chat, letter scanning, and voice) are free for your first 30 days — no sign-up and no payment details needed, and nothing converts automatically. After the free month, the AI features ask whether you'd like a monthly subscription, billed by Apple through your Apple Account — the App Store shows the exact price in your currency before you confirm. We never see your card or bank details; payment stays entirely between you and Apple.
How do I cancel the subscription?
Open your device's Settings → your name → Subscriptions, choose Intashyo, and tap Cancel. You keep access until the end of the period you already paid for, and nothing more is charged. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription — it must be done in Settings. For a refund, use Apple's reportaproblem.apple.com.
Does the app work offline?
Most of it does. The Resources, Emergency, and Profile tabs work offline (only a listing's listen button needs a connection). The AI Chat tab and Scan a letter need an internet connection because they use a language model on a server. Voice input and spoken replies also need a connection, and so does signing in.
How do I read a letter I received?
Tap "Scan a letter" on the Home screen (it is also at the top of the Documents category), then photograph the page — lay it flat and fill the screen. Your phone reads the words itself; only those words are sent to be explained in your language, never the photo. You get one short card: what the letter is, its main point, what you need to do and by when, what happens if you don't, and the key details — plus a local organization that can help, when one fits. A speaker button reads the card to you, and you can type or say a question under it ("Ask about this letter") to learn anything else the letter says. The card is designed to warn you when a letter looks like a scam — for example, one that demands payment in gift cards or threatens arrest unless you pay right away. Nothing is saved on your phone, and closing the screen clears it (if you tap the speaker button, the spoken audio may be kept on our server for up to 30 days — see the Privacy Policy). It is a computer reading of the page and it can misread faint or handwritten print, so for court, immigration, legal or medical papers, confirm with a person — call 211 for free help in many languages.
How do the voice features work?
Every text box has a microphone button — tap it, speak, and tap again to stop; your words appear as text. In AI Chat you can also switch to voice mode (the waveform button) to ask questions by speaking and hear the answers read aloud. The first time you tap a microphone button, Intashyo asks for your permission to use its AI and speech partners, then iOS asks for microphone permission. You can withdraw the AI permission any time in Profile → Stop sharing with AI. Your recording is sent to a speech service to be turned into text and is deleted right after; see the Privacy Policy for details. If dictation seems to mishear you, try speaking a little slower in a quiet place — and if audio answers aren't available in your language yet, the text answer always still appears.
How do I change my language?
Tap the language pill on the Home tab, or open Profile and tap Change language.
How do I start a new AI Chat conversation?
On the AI Chat tab, tap the compose (pencil) icon in the top right and confirm. Your recent chat (the last 50 messages) is saved only on your phone, so it is still there the next time you open the app. Starting a new chat erases it, and so does deleting your account.
Where do the resources come from?
The resources listed in the app are real organizations across Kentucky that serve newly arrived immigrants and refugees. We curate the list and update it when organizations change phone numbers or addresses. If you spot something out of date, please email us.
Why doesn't my city show up?
Intashyo has verified local listings for Kentucky: Louisville, Lexington, Bowling Green, Owensboro, Northern Kentucky, and the Elizabethtown / Fort Knox area, plus Kentucky-wide programs. Enter your city with its state (for example "Richmond, KY") or a Kentucky ZIP code — town names that also exist in other states only match when the state is Kentucky. If your city isn't covered yet, the app shows a national directory instead — federal programs, hotlines, and locators (like 211, SSA, and free legal directories) that work anywhere in the US — and the AI assistant can answer questions about your specific area. If you'd like us to prioritize your city, please email us.
What does the app do with my chat messages?
Chat messages are sent to a server we operate, which forwards them to Google's Gemini API to generate the assistant's response. Your city and language are sent along so the answer fits your situation; they are not stored with your identity. Our server does not store your conversations — your recent chat is kept only on your phone (answers to common first questions are cached anonymously for up to 30 days). See the Privacy Policy for full details.
How do I report a problem?
Email iradukuunda@gmail.com with a description of what happened and which device/iOS version you're on. Screenshots help. You can also tap and hold any AI response in the app and choose Report.
In an emergency
If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call 911 (texting 911 only works in some Kentucky counties — call if you can). The Emergency tab also lists lines you can reach 24/7 — the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988), Crisis Text Line, Poison Control (1-800-222-1222), the Domestic Violence Hotline, and 211 for food and local help — plus the nearest 24/7 emergency room for your Kentucky city. Immigration legal help (Kentucky Refugee Ministries) is available during office hours, not 24/7.
